Sheep Brain Dissection Guide

sheep-brain

The brain is one of the most interesting dissections to perform, mainly because all of the structures are easily found and animal models closely resemble human brains..  In this lab guide, students are given instruction on how to remove the dura mater,  and locate the main structures of the external brain (cerebrum, cerebellum, medulla, pons, nerves.)

Students then cut the brain at the longitudinal fissure to view the internal anatomy.   The lab guide has photos to help students find structures and questions and labeling to reinforce concepts.

The Sheep Brain Virtual Dissection has photos of what students will view in the lab.

Sheep brains can be purchased from Amazon or biological supply companies.
