Videos

Adding video resources for biological processes and techniques to this page.   More coming soon. For ease of use, I have these hosted at schooltube.com and youtube.com which allows for sharing and embedding easily.

Ameba – this little protist is notoriously camera-shy.  Capturing one with a microscope video camera can present quite a challenge as it will move as quickly as it can using its pseudopodia to get out of the light.  The ameba (also spelled amoeba) belongs to the Kingdom Protista, Phylum Sarcodina

Pond Life – slide shows several protists including stentor and didinium

Hydra – this video shows a hydra as it moves its tentacles in search of food.  Hydra are small multicellular organisms belonging to the Cnidaria Phylum.

Blood Type Analysis – students demonstrate how to use a lancet to get a sample of blood and test their own blood types using an eldoncard.

Spotlight Video

Video of Anacharis (Elodea) Slide – here you can see the chloroplasts streaming within the cytoplasm of individual cells.  The nucleus is difficult to see in these cells because of the number of chloroplasts.   Often it is visible as a dark area within the cell.

Other Sources for Science Videos

MicroscopyU by Nikon:  Pond Life – has a large library of images and videos covering just about every organism you could find in water

Interactive Biology – more advanced topics, videos are guides to explain difficult topics in biology, such as ATP, and protein channels within membranes.
